મોરોક્કોના મારકેશ શહેરમાં વિનાશથી સ્થાનિક લોકોના મનમાં ગભરાટ ફેલાયો છે. સમાચાર એજન્સી એફપીના જણાવ્યા અનુસાર ભૂકંપના કારણે અત્યાર સુધીમાં કુલ 632 લોકોના મોત થયા છે અને 329 લોકો ઘાયલ થયા છે. હજુ પણ ઘણા લોકો ગુમ હોવાના અહેવાલ છે.

શક્તિશાળી ભૂકંપના કારણે ઘણી ઇમારતો ધરાશાયી થઈ ગઈ હતી. મોરોક્કોમાં તબાહીની ઘણી તસવીરો અને વીડિયો સોશિયલ મીડિયા પર ઝડપથી વાયરલ થઈ રહ્યા છે. એક વીડિયોમાં જોઈ શકાય છે કે, ‘કેવી રીતે ભૂકંપના કારણે આખી ઈમારત જમીન પર ધસી ગઈ હતી.’

મોરોક્કોના મરાકેશ શહેરમાં પ્રખ્યાત જામા અલ ફના સ્ક્વેર પાસે બનેલી મસ્જિદ ભૂકંપના કારણે ધરાશાયી થઈ ગઈ. આ મસ્જિદ જ્યાં બનાવવામાં આવી હતી તે સ્થળ શહેરના વ્યસ્ત વિસ્તારોમાંથી એક માનવામાં આવે છે. ભૂકંપના કારણે મસ્જિદનો મુખ્ય ભાગ પડી ગયો હતો.

ભૂકંપના કારણે ઇમારતો ધરાશાયી થતાં આસપાસના વિસ્તારો ધુમાડામાં લપેટાઇ ગયા હતા. સ્થાનિક લોકો તેમના ઘરની બહાર દોડતા અને ચીસો પાડતા જોવા મળ્યા હતા.

મોરોક્કોમાં છેલ્લા 120 વર્ષમાં આવો ભૂકંપ આવ્યો નથી. ભૂકંપના જોરદાર આંચકાના કારણે લોકોમાં ગભરાટ ફેલાયો છે. તેઓ પોતાના ઘરે પાછા જતા ડરે છે. આવી સ્થિતિમાં ઘણા લોકોએ રસ્તાના કિનારે રાત વિતાવી હતી.

સોશિયલ મીડિયા પર ભૂકંપ બાદના અનેક વીડિયો સામે આવ્યા છે. આ વીડિયોમાં ઈમારતોના કાટમાળ જોવા મળી રહ્યો છે. આ ભૂકંપમાં હમણા સુધી 628 લોકોના મોત થયા છે જ્યારે ઘણા લોકો કાટમાળમાં ફસાયેલા હોવાની શક્યતા છે. ભૂકંપના આવા તીવ્ર આંચકા શહેરમાં અસામાન્ય માનવામાં આવે છે. છેલ્લા 120 વર્ષમાં આ વિસ્તારમાં આટલી તીવ્રતાનો ભૂકંપ અનુભવાયો નથી. આ પહેલા શહેરમાં જેટલા પણ ભૂકંપ આવ્યા છે તે શહેરના પૂર્વ વિસ્તારોમાં આવ્યા છે.
